President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, stumbled and fell during a welcome reception parade ceremony.
The incident occurred as President Tinubu walked alongside his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during which Tinubu apparently missed his step.
He was however, quickly supported by aides and protocol officials which allowed him to regain balance and continued with the reception.
President Tinubu arrived Ankara on Monday night on a state visit and was received at the Ankara Esenboga Airport by a Turkish government delegation led by the Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, and other embassy officials.
A statement on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated that President Tinubu’s visit was aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Türkiye.
Onanuga also said that the visit would explore further areas of cooperation to advance a mutually beneficial partnership, adding that the president would hold discussions with Erdogan during his visit.
According to Onanuga; “There will also be the signing of Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries, among other engagements”.
