BY GRACE ANYANWU, ABUJA – The Progressive Governor’s Forum on Monday in Abuja presented its legislative agenda to the National Assembly.

The chairman of the Forum’s committee on legislative matters and Governor of Kaduna state, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari presented the Agenda when he led other progressive Governors on a visit on the leadership of the two chambers of the National Assembly.

Masari told the lawmakers that the progressive Governor’s Forum had a standing sub-committee on legislative matters that was started in 2015 with the last assembly but unfortunately nothing of substance came out for obvious reasons.

Masari further said that the progressive governors thought that they should contact the leadership of the National Assembly early enough so that machinery can be put in motion to make it possible for the governors to be on the same page with the leadership of the National Assembly in moving the country forward.

He said the Forum believed that doing so will give the ruling APC an opportunity to address the fundamental changes that not only affect the party but the nation, adding that the Forum itemized some of the issues.

Masari further said; “The details would be unveiled in subsequent meetings between the Forum and sub committees of the National Assembly.”

He reminded the leadership of the Federal legislature that president Muhammad Buhari had always advised the leadership of the party, the Governors and the National Assembly to provide good leadership to the country.

The chairman of the Forum explained that the absence of good relationship between the party, the National Assembly and the Governors produced crisis of trust, which if care is not taken could destroy not only APC but the political process in the country.

He said that there is need to make amends and prioritize binding strong relationships between all blocks of APC members and stakeholders.

He said APC members need to remind themselves of what took place between 2015 and 2019 during which avoidable circumstances gave new life to political opponents such as the PDP.

He expressed gratitude to the leadership of the National Assembly for the opportunity to present the legislative agenda.

Earlier, both the President of the Senate, Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan and Speaker Femi Gbajiamila expressed appreciation to the governors for their role in ensuring the emergence of the present leadership of the National Assembly.

They pledged to work with the leadership of the progressive Governors’ Forum for effective implementation of legislative agenda for the development of the party and the country at large.

The chairman of the progressive Governor’s Forum and Governor of kebbi state, Senator Abubakar Bagudu briefed the leadership of the legislature on various committees set up by the Forum, one of which is the legislative committee.
