BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) under the leadership of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma on Wednesday met behind closed doors at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, the nation’s capital city.

Though the agenda was not officially made public, the meeting held amid growing political consultations within the ruling party ahead of its national convention slated for March this year.

Also, insiders hinted that part of the agenda included the ongoing electronic registration exercise, the conduct of ward and local government congresses, and other pressing national and party-related issues, such as the governorship elections holding in Ekiti and Osun states later this year.

The 2026 Ekiti State gubernatorial election will take place on June 18, 2026, while Osun State will follow suit on August 8, 2026.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, said the Forum remains committed to deepening participatory democracy in the country.

While commending the ongoing e-registration as way strengthening data driven base within the APC, he said: “The Forum reaffirmed its collective commitment to deepening internal democracy, strengthening party structures, and advancing reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness within the APC across all levels of the federation”.

The PGF’s communique read by Governor Uzodimma further said: “The Forum reviewed and endorsed the proposed timetable and institutional framework as approved by NEC for the forthcoming Ward, Local Government, State, Zonal Congresses, and the National Convention.

“The Forum emphasized the importance of transparent and coordinated financial management in the conduct of congresses and conventions, ensuring fairness, consistency, and accountability across all states, including those without APC-governed administrations.

“The PGF reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to party unity and internal harmony. The Forum underscored the need for responsible leadership communication and collective discipline in strengthening public confidence in the Party’s democratic processes.”

Governors who attended the meeting were Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi); Uba Sani (Kaduna); Nasir Idris (Kebbi); Agbu Kefas (Taraba); Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau); and Monday Okpebholo (Edo).

Others include and Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi); Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom); Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto); and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta)

However, three Governors, Babagana Zulum (Borno), Muhammad Yahaya (Gombe), and Dikko Radda (Katsina), though not physically present were represented by their respective deputies at the meeting.

Reports also indicated that members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by its National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, were in attendance.
