- Mobilises for electoral victory in 2024 Edo guber poll
BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Determined to break free from the shadows of the faltering opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that held sway for over 24 years, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the South-South zone has resolved to work together to consolidate and effectively take-over political control within the region.
Consequently, the Party Zonal leadership said working hard to achieve a positive outcome in the upcoming Edo State governorship election would serve as a signpost of their readiness to foster unity, support, and robust cooperation among stakeholders in the geo-political zone.
Rising from the APC’s stakeholders meeting at Government House in Calabar, the Cross River State capital over the weekend, the Party’s South-South Zonal Vice Chairman, Chief Victor Gaidom told journalists that the State is truly the home of APC in the zone given the quality leadership being provided by Governor Bassey Edet Otu for the people that has made it more attractive to many political stakeholders.
Chief Gaidom said the Zonal Officials came, they have seen, and they are going back to their different states to preach the good news of what an APC administration is doing in Cross River State, adding; “As you can see this is pragmatic and progressive leadership in action.
“What the governor has done in less than one year in office is evidence of true dividends of democracy at work and the message would be taken to Edo state for the people there to be convinced that yes our capacity to deliver is not a mere paper talk, it can be verified”.
Further appreciating Governor Otu for providing quality leadership in the state, the APC chieftain said what they have seen is enough to convince anyone that with greater focus, visionary approach, purpose, and zeal for making a positive impact, Nigeria’s democracy can be taken to a greater height.
In his remarks, the Chief Host, Governor Bassey Otu pledged his commitment to the victory of the party in Edo State polls which is around the corner, assuring that the APC’s South-South leadership is concerned about the numerical strength of the party in the zone and has resolved to redouble efforts at the effective mobilisation of the people before the next general election in 2027.
He said as the Party’s Leader in the zone, the Edo State election, which is around the corner, presents a test case, and “we would seize that opportunity to make a bold statement of our presence in the zone before 2027”>
The Governor said everyone knows that Edo is an APC state and whatever led to the change of guard in leadership would be addressed with the outcome of the forthcoming gubernatorial poll.
