Several chairmen of state chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have resolved not to have anything to do with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike-led Rainbow Coalition arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The State party leaders have therefore asked Wike to join the APC if he is genuinely committed to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.
The development followed a renewed confrontation between Wike and APC governors over the political structure the former governor of Rivers State put in place ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While some of the APC state chapters welcomed Wike’s support for Tinubu, they indicated willingness to receive him if he decides to defect to the ruling party.
They however, resolved to oppose the coalition outrightly, stressing that a politician cannot simultaneously support the APC at the presidential level and candidates of other parties in governorship and legislative elections.
The State chairmen emphasized that the APC as a well structured and disciplined party, would not in any material particular accept and or work with what look essentially an “anti-party” organization in the form of “Rainbow Coalition”.
