The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore on Monday, September 28, 2026 faulted claims by some officials in the presidency that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on vacation and still carrying out his official duties, stressing that the seat of power need to come clean on the real issues involved in the absence of the President.
Sowore alleged that President Tinubu is currently in hospital, stating that the AAC intends to sue the President as well as demand impeachment proceedings against him.
Sowore, who stated these while speaking with journalists at the Federal High Court, Abuja, pointedly said that his party knows where the President is and believes Tinubu will return to Nigeria after he is discharged from the hospital.
In the words of Sowore; “Well, I know where he is. He’s in the hospital. So, I guess when he is discharged, he will return”.
The presidential candidate of the AAC further said that his party had taken a decision to challenge the development in court and would also seek the involvement of the National Assembly in impeachment proceedings against the President.
He further said; “We have taken a position in our party to sue him and the National Assembly to commence his impeachment. And we are filing the case today, right at the Federal High Court here”.
President Tinubu’s extended stay outside the country has set tongues wagging just as it has generated fresh political and legal questions, with opposition figures and lawyers calling for clarification over his absence and the constitutional implications.
However, the Presidency stated that Tinubu remains in charge of government affairs despite his stay abroad, saying that digital age makes the President’s presence in Abuja unnecessary, saying “the President must not remain in Abuja to carry out his official duties”.
The presidency also indicated that Tinubu is expected back in Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29, but will be landing in Lagos on his return from Europe.
