Suspected thugs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday, March 14, 2026 disrupted the scheduled opening of Secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State.
It was gathered that the APC thugs stormed the venue of the opening of secretariat event by the ADC and used dangerous objects to disperse party supporters and destroyed canopies, loudspeakers, chairs, and other equipment put in place for the event.
A trending video on social media showed a group of thugs forcefully dismantling the setup and shouting that the ADC would not be allowed to operate in the State particularly in Bakassi Local Government Area.
In the recorded video, a man believed to be leading the group was heard giving directives to his members to scatter and destroy everything, a development that led members of the ADC to take cover even as hired workers putting finishing touches to arrangements had to scamper for safety.
In the footage, the leader of the thugs was heard saying; “We want only APC here. Scatter everything called ADC. Where are they, scatter them”.
The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the incident and described the perpetrators as hoodlums, but added that personnel were quickly deployed to area to restore order.
Spokesperson of the police command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said in a statement issued on Sunday, March 15, 2026, said the event was about to commence when “hoodlums from nowhere came and scattered the canopies, chairs and sound systems”.
ASP Eitokpah said the situation was brought under control to prevent snowballing into a full-blown crisis, saying; “Officers and tactical team are at the scene”.
According to the police spokesperson; “The event couldn’t continue again. In such a chaotic situation, and considering the volatile nature of the area, for now, no arrests have been made”.
A similar scenario played out on Tuesday when the ADC’s activity was disrupted in Calabar, a development that led the opposition party to raise alarm over what it described as an attempt to forcefully hijack the structures of the party in the state.
