APC Thugs Vandalise NUJ Press Centre, Bauchi Just To Stop A Press Briefing

It was a dark day for members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi State Council, as thugs believed to be loyal to a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, stormed the Secretariat of the Union and disrupted a scheduled press conference.

It however took the quick response of Police personnel led by the Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Wakili to save the NUJ Press Center from being vandalized by the sponsored political thugs.

The unsuspecting thugs numbering over 50 had quietly moved to the Press Center at about 10.40 am as journalists initially presumed that they were part of the supporters of those billed to address the press conference until they suddenly started hurl stones and other dangerous objects at the journalists and those that gathered for the press briefing by a faction of the APC.

The thugs practically took over the MA Abdullahi Hall being venue of the briefing, scattered the tables and chairs put in place before chasing away everyone in sight. This took place when the leader of the faction had barely read the opening paragraph of his text statement calling for the dissolution of the State working Committee led by Uba Ahmed Nana as well as other Executive members from the Wards and Local Government levels when the thugs took over and scattered the venue.

Some of the thugs kept on shouting that nobody can remove Uba Nana or any member of the State Executive of the party.

Uba Ahmed Nana, who is being accused of sponsoring the thugs, however denied on phone that he neither knows or sent any of the thugs to a press conference he was not aware of its holding, adding that moreover, his position as the Chairman of the Bauchi State chapter of the APC is not in any way under threat.

The Police that moved in quickly to save the situation, later left all the factions to the Command headquarters for possible amicable settlement and or questioning on disruption of public peace.
