APC’s CECPC Mulls Tenure Elongation As Emergency NEC Holds Dec 8
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – With the mandate of its Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) obviously unattainable this year, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) for Tuesday, December 8, 2020
The party’s last emergency NEC that held at the Presidential Villa on June 25, 2020 saw the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) being swept away from office. In its place, the 13-member CECPC under the chairmanship of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni was inaugurated and given a six month tenure to deliver on their assignment.
According to the APC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, the meeting is expected to review the party’s position and set agenda for its next move.
Nabena said formal invitation has already been sent to APC NEC members by the National Secretary of the Party’s CECPC, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe.
The statement further said in line with the COVID-19 public health protocols, “the NEC meeting will be virtual”, adding that; “Login details will be sent to APC NEC members in due course.
“The meeting is slated for 11am at the Council Chamber, State House, Abuja.”
Competent sources told Forefront that the Committee has faced an uphill task delivering on its mandate of reconciling all aggrieved members of the party; resolving all intra-party crises and conducting a national convention or the election of new NWC members.
Insiders also confirmed that Buni-led committee plans to push for the NEC to ratify its planned registration and revalidation of party membership register.
It was further learnt that the contending tendencies within the ruling party have made it imperative for the CECPC to seek NEC’s intervention for tenure extension by another three to six months.
