. Respite for Gov Obiano’s 2nd term bid

Respite has come the way of Governor Wllie Obiano as the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu on Wednesday endorsed embattled Victor Oye as the National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

The legal tussle is considered a battle for the soul of APGA between the victorious Oye’s faction of the Party that has been strongly behind Governor Obiano and the Chief Martins Agbaso-led group currently opposing the governor’s second term ambition.

Justice Abdul Aboki, who delivered the judgment on Wednesday, however quashed the Enugu State High Court’s order sacking Oye from office as National Chairman.

The contentious order sacking Victor Oye was delivered by an Enugu State High Court presided over by Justice A. R. Ozoemena.

In his ruling, Justice Aboki said the appeal succeeded purely on its merit and thereby declared Oye as the bona-fide National Chairman of APGA.

The Appeal Court has now temporarily rested the Justice A. R Ozoemena’s order that removed Oye from office with Chief Martin Agbaso stepping in as the Acting National Chairman. In addition, the Enugu High court had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refrained from further dealings with Oye on behalf of the party.

Agbaso’s emergence followed a suit instituted by the Secretary of APGA, Enugu State chapter, Comrade Mike Alioke, who dragged Victor Oye before the High court over his continued stay in office after being suspended on October 5, 2016 by the National Working Committee (NWC) for anti-party activities.

Sources close to the National Secretariat of APGA told Forefront in Abuja that the Appeal Court ruling has now strengthened the Oye-led National Working Committee (NWC) to put into all its actions towards backing Governor Obiano on his second tenure bid come November 2017 Anambra governorship election.
