Appeal Court Judge, Justice Ikyegh Nominated As Justice Of Supreme Court, Dies

Justice Joseph Shagbaor Ikyegh of the Court of Appeal, who was recently nominated for elevation to the Supreme Court of Nigeria as Justice of the Supreme Court (JSC), is dead.

Justice Ikyegh, who hailed from Benue State, died at the age of 64years on Wednesday afternoon at his Makurdi residence situated at the Achussa community area of the Benue State capital.

Until his death, the late Justice Ikyegh was the Presiding Justice, Court of Appeal, Port-Harcourt Division.

The Chief Judge of Benue state, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, announced Justice Ikyegh demise when he called for a minute silence in his honour at a public function in Makurdi.

It was gathered that the late Justice Ikyegh collapsed while making a phone call at home and spirited efforts by his family members to revive him was unsuccessful.

A family source said that he rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi where he was confirmed dead by medical doctors.

The late jurist recently made the list of 11 Justices of the Court of Appeal recommended by National Judicial Council (NJC) to be promoted to the Supreme Court from the North Central on reserve basis.
