CONAECDA To Tinunbu: Appoint A Northern Minority As SGF, CoS
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – The Conference of Autochthonous Ethnic Nationalities Communities Development Association (CONAECDA) has tasked the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to appoint from its membership to occupy the position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) or the Chief of Staff to the President.
In a press statement signed at the weekend by Prof. Aboi Madaki, who is the Chairman of the Governance and Political Affairs Committee of CONAECDA, the association notes: āIt is time for the President-Elect to redeem himself. Many Nigerians have very high respect for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and wished he had considered religious diversity in his ticket.
āCONAECDA leaders are also aware that even in his party he was not the preferred candidate by the power brokers, and now he is the President-Elect. He needs to do things differently and to start strategically by showing the world that he is out to give hope as he promised. Who are those in need of hope?
āChristians in the North, victims of years of ethnic and religious violence; poor Christians and Muslims in the Villages faced with insecurity. The people of the North-East plagued by terrorists, who hope that a former governor of a terrorised state is Asiwajuās Vice President; can you give the Northern Christians hope by appointing one of them into the Office of the National Security adviser? The Secretary to the Federal Government? And/ or the Chief of Staff?ā
The ethnic nationalities of the North-Central Nigeria and the Middle Belt strongly urge the authorities to reciprocate the good conduct of Nigerians by ensuring that the election disputes are honestly and openly addressed by the relevant institutions, especially INEC and the Law Courts.
According to the group, āOther factors that strongly influenced the results of the presidential election included youth issues, religion, economic factors, insecurity, corruption and many more.
āThe outcome of the 2023 elections as declared by the INEC reflects the level of disaffection Nigerians have towards the outgoing government. The result of the election shows that the Presidency was won with just 37% of the total votes cast.ā
