2022 FIFA World Cup: Nigeria Stay Atop Group C Qualifiers
With the fourth round of matches completed over the weekend, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are still maintaining their leadership position in the African Group C qualifying series for the 2022 FIFA World Cup that will be hosted by the peninsular Arab country of Qatar.
Interestingly, Cape Verde have moved up to the second spot after garnering a slim 1-0 victory over Liberia at the Stade Municipal Adérito Sena in Mindelo on Sunday. Ryan Mendes scored the solitary goal at the stroke of full time to take the Blue Sharks to seven points.
For now, the Cape Verdeans are just two points shy of leaders Nigeria who earlier on Sunday beat the Central Africa Republic 2-0.
Following their loss, Lone Stars of Liberia dropped to the bottom of Group C with three points. However, all the teams remain mathematically in contention with two rounds of matches left to play between November 11 and 16, 2021.
