Armed Men Attack Nasarawa-based Journalist In Jos
BY OUR REPORTER, JOS – Masked men suspected to be hired killers on Friday night attacked Ahmed Tukur, a Nasarawa-based journalist for some undisclosed reasons.
The attackers struck in front of Tukur’s home in Jos, Plateau State, few hours after he arrived from his operational base in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
The suspected hired killers, numbering about three, attacked Ahmed shortly after he saw off a friend who visited and they had iftar together.
Dressed in black with their faces covered, the masked men had one of them waiting on a bike, while two approached Ahmed and threatened to pierce a knife through his stomach. In the ensuing confusion, Ahmed had his left hand slashed while trying to parry a blow from the knife.
Tukur told Forefront that the unidentified mask men went for his neck but unsuccessful in their deadly strike, left a deep cut on his head after struggling for over five minutes before the neighbours came to his rescue and chased the after fleeing armed men who escaped with the standby motorbike.
According to Tukur, who arrived Jos from Lafia same day, he was scheduled to leave for Kano the following day on an official assignment that had to be cancelled due to the attack.
When our reporter visited Tukur’s residence in Jos, some people were seen around the premises on sympathy visits.
Narrating his ordeal, Tukur said; “I just assisted to drop off a brother who came visiting and then drove back home. thereafter, I spend about five minute locking the car and decided to remove the car battery because of thieves that have been disturbing the area.
“After closing the bonnet, two people approached me and I said, Salamu-Alaikum to one of them; stretching out my hands thinking he was coming to ask for something. Suddenly, he brought a knife out and went straight for my stomach.
“We engaged in a fierce struggle for over five minutes and in the process, the two men left a cut on my hand and head. I also have a dislocation in my right arm as you can see.
“They didn’t ask for money or anything, but were determined to either slash my neck or stomach with the knife.”
Tukur, who has a dislocation on his right limb, is presently receiving medical treating in a private clinic in the Jos Metropolis.
The incident has already been reported to the Police for investigation.
