Atiku Presidency: You Can’t Always Have It Your Way – Dogara Chides Wike
BY EDMOND ODOK – Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, says the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, should not demand to have things going his way only amid the crisis rocking the country’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Replying to the Governor, who is leading the G-5 Governors’ dissident group in the PDP, Dogara said there is absolutely nothing wrong with the support his group has declared for the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar.
In a series of tweets, the former speaker while responding to statements credited to the Rivers State Chief Executive about his endorsement of the Wazirin Adamawa presidential ticket made reference to their discussions and the agreement, adding however that he won’t make them public because he is not a betrayer.
Speaking further on the issue via his verified Twitter account, @Yakubdogara, the former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain accused Governor Wike of being “self-centered and shallow-minded” in his insistence that only positions canvassed by him should be respected and followed.
“To my brother, Governor Nyesom Wike; if there is anything you are suffering from, I never thought amnesia would be one of them. Why would you think no one, except you, is entitled to a certain set of principles he/she cannot compromise?”, Dogara said.
Digging deep into his engagement with Wike on the 2023 presidency, the Bauchi State-born politician further said; “It’s such a pity if you cannot remember what our discussion and agreement were all about.
“Why should only your own position be respected and followed? I would never betray a friend and a brother that is why I won’t respond to your tirade on live TV. ”
Clearly challenging Governor Wike on the contents of their personal discussions and agreement, Dogara said; “The details of our conversation are sealed up with me. But if you feel it’s okay to throw it to the public, kindly give me written consent to divulge it so that the public can judge who is saying the truth.”
“Thank God there was a witness”, the former Speaker concluded
