Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has expressed serious concern over the incessant attacks on Kwande communities by armed herders, wondering why Kwande and Ukum have attracted the attention of the attackers now that relative peace is being recorded in other areas of the state.

Governor Alia said that he shared in the pains being experienced by the people, promising that his administration will step up its response and prompt, too.

He therefore appealed to the people of Kwande Local Government Area, particularly the women who took to the streets to register their grievances about the security situation in the local government to remain calm as his government works unrelentingly to bring peace to the area.

While assuring the people of Kwande and Ukum of his swift and improved feedback to their situation, Governor Alia described the activities of the assailants and their collaborators as “remorseless barbarism” and assured that their activities will become history soon.

In the words of Alia; “Read my lips. The remorseless barbarity of these assailants and their sponsors will soon be a thing of the past”.

A statement by Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, said that Governor Alia reemphasizes his love for Kwande, Ukum and the entire state, saying his government has and will never abandone them, just as he promised to ensure that the land of Kwande and Ukum and the entire Benue State is free from armed herdsmen invasion.

Alia sympathizes with the victims of the recent attacks on Kwande and therefore called on security agencies to give the state their best by ensuring that the enemies of the state are caught and dealt with.

The Governor also warned those using his name to stir controversy in Kwande and other areas of the state to be wary of the potential consequences of their actions, stressing that he is governor for all and will continue to work for the good of all the people, particularly the masses.
