BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Ramalan Mukhtar Yero, and three others, former Kaduna Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Mr. Haruna Gaiya,  former Minister of State for Power, Mr. Nuhu Wya and former Secretary to Kaduna State government, Mr. Hamza Ishaq, have been remanded in prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna.  The case has been adjourned to June 6, 2018 for bail application.

Justice Mohammed Shuaibu gave the remand order on Thursday, following the arraignment of the defendants by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The former Governor and the other defendants were charged with four counts bordering on money laundering, criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of public fund, and breach of trust. They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

According to the EFCC,  the accused have been under investigation by EFCC since 2016, for the role they played in the disbursement of the N750 million PDP campaign fund before the 2015 general elections.

Although the four accused persons have been reporting at the EFCC office for some time, in line with the procedure for their investigation, they were however detained when they reported at the commission’s zonal office on Wednesday morning.
