Bandits Abduct Over 70 Traders In Kaduna
- Police escort allegedly missing
Tragedy struck again in Kaduna State on Wednesday morning as some traders traveling to Kano were reportedly abducted by bandits along the dreaded Birnin Gwari-Kaduna road.
Information made available to journalists indicates that the traders’ convoy was attacked by many bandits early in the morning who later took their victims deep into the forests.
While still awaiting reaction on the incident from the Kaduna State Police Command, one of the locals, Malam Umaru told journalists that the traders were in a convoy of over 20 vehicles with police escort.
According to his account, at a bend near Udawa after Buruku, the bandits abducted about 70 traders from the community and scores of others who are from the neighbouring villages.
Speaking in vernacular (Hausa language), he said calls made to the phone of some of the missing traders, were answered by the bandits, a development that confirmed that the number of abducted traders currently in captivity could be more than the 70 being speculated in the media.
