BASAM Enlists Corps Members In Reduction Of Maternal Mortality And Morbidity
BY KALMANA AFSA, BAUCHI – As part of concerted efforts aimed at addressing and reducing Maternal mortality and morbidity rate, the Bauchi state Accountability Mechanism for Maternal New Born and Child Health (MNCH) (BASAM)’ on Tuesday commenced advocacy visit to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the State for the compulsory one year service.
The advocacy to the NYSC Orientation Camp is aimed at mobilizing and enlisting the Corps members to form and join MNCH CDS group as part of measures to mitigate the alarming indices of maternal death in the country especially in the North East geo-political zone.
Co-chair of the Coalition, Mr Abu John, who led members of the team, pleaded with the newly posted Corps members to use the strategic position they occupy in various communities to complement government’s effort in healthcare service delivery.
John said that with active participation of the NYSC members, they will be contributing to achieving Universal health coverage.
He assured that Basam will continue to provide support to the CDS groups when formed in various locations, adding that they can also become ambassadors in their various communities.
John also said that Basam will continue to use evidence to advocate to policy makers on Human Resource for health, availability of life saving drugs in all health facilities and functional blood banks among others.
