Bello Gets Senate Confirmation As RMAFC Chairman
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) now has a new chairman in the person of Mohammed Bello Shehu.
The confirmation of Bello, who hitherto served as the Commission’s Secretary, was sequel to the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs.
Presenting his report, the Senate Committee Chairman, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi said available documents and the submissions made to the committee, confirmed that the nominee satisfied the requirement for appointment as the RMAFC Chairman.
According to Senator Adetunmbi; “The nominee is very well experienced and adequately exposed at the top levels of government administration and has acquired the capacity to function as chairman.”
Also, Adetunmbi disclosed that there were no petitions against the nominee and no objections raised from the Senators from his state of origin for his nomination.
“The nominee is proper and fit to occupy the office of the Chairman in the Commission,” the lawmaker said.
President Muhammadu Buhari had written to the Senate on June 22, 2022, requesting the screening and subsequent confirmation of Mohammed Bello Shehu as Chairman of the RMAFC. The President’s request was contained in a letter read by the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, at the plenary.
The letter read thus; “In accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Mohammed Bello Shehu, as the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.”
