BASG, CGC Agree On Completion Of Abandoned Road Projects

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Respite may soon come the way of residents of some communities in Bauchi State as abandoned road projects now have timeline of completion.

This followed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached between the Bauchi State Government and management of a contruction company, CGC Nigeria Limited, the firm handling three abandoned road projects in the state with the view of returning to site for completion.

The abandoned projects are the Awalah roundabout to Miri dualization of road construction, rehabilitation of Misau to Bulkachuwa road and rehabilitation of Bulkachuwa to Udubo road.

At the meeting held at the Government House, Bauchi, the two parties agreed on the completion of the projects within a period of one year.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Governor Bala Mohammed said all the projects were reviewed on the basis of engineering and management evaluation.

Mohammed said the completion of the abandoned projects was in fulfilment of his campaign promises to deliver projects and programmes including those mismanaged and abandoned by the previous administration.

He further said; “Today, we met with the management of the CGC company, the contractor handling three road projects awarded about 5 years now. After an extensive discussion, we have achieved a lot in the reduction of prices of projects.

“As a responsible government, we are doing all these with persuasion and negotiations. I pledge to provide you with the necessary resources for immediate mobilization to site.

“All these projects were awarded since 2016 and my administration will set up funds to pay you what you require for the completion of the projects”.

The Governor assured the citizens of Bauchi state of the determination of the administration to provide them as promised, good governance in an effort to tackle the challenges affecting the progress and development of the state.

In his remarks, Managing Director of CGC Nigeria Limited, Engineer Ye Shuijin described the meeting with the Governor as a welcome development, assuring of the total commitment of the company to complete all its ongoing projects within the agreed time frame.

Ye Shuijin also said that the company will  support and cooperate with Governor Mohammed to enable him succeed in the execution of laudable projects especially in infrastructure.
