Bauchi Auto Crash Claims 15 Lives
- Seven persons injured, receiving treatment at ATBUTH
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Bauchi State Sector Command has confirmed that at least 15 persons lost their lives with seven others sustaining serious injuries in an auto crash along the ever-busy Jos-Bauchi highway.
In the First Information Report (FIR) from Zebra 30 of the FRSC State Command in Toro-Magaman Gumau, Toro LGA, the crash occurred on Thursday, 23/02/2023 at about 1530hrs.
It was thereafter reported at 1545hrs while personnel of the FRSC arrived at 1553hrs making a response time of 8 minutes with the FRSC officials indicating that the crash involved a truck and a commercial bus.
According to the FIR, the accident occurred in Nabordo, a community along the Bauchi–Jos road involving a Trailer with registration number DKD32 XB, and a Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number YLA 984XA.
The truck reportedly belongs to the fleet of Dangote, while the Toyota bus belongs to Adamawa State’s Sunshine Transport Corporation.
“Cumulatively, 22 persons were involved in the accident comprising two (2) Female Adults, 18 Male Adults, one (1) Female Child and, one (1) Male Child.
The FIR report read thus; “The number of people killed were 15 comprising 12 male adults, one (1) female adult, one (1) male child and one (1) female child while those injured were seven (7), consisting of six (6) Male Adults and one (1) Female Adult.”
The FRSC report further indicated that the probable cause of the road traffic crash could have been lost of control, speed limit violation and dangerous driving (LOC/SPV/DGD).
Eyewitness account said given the impact of the collision, personal items were not recovered at the scene of the crash while the injured were evacuated and rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi for treatment.
Similarly, the corpses of those confirmed dead were deposited at the ATBUTH’s morgue.
The rescue operation was carried out by a combined team of FRSC personnel and the Police area as reported by DRC BA Isa for the Officer in Charge of the Zebra 30.
