Bauchi Road Accidents Claim 15 Lives
- Six persons injured in one day
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – In what has now become a regular experience in Bauchi state, two separate ghastly motor accidents occurred on Thursday claiming 15 lives in the process.
Confirming the unfortunate development, the Bauchi State Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) said the accidents occurred at about 12.30 pm and was reported at about 12.35 pm at Haka Yafi village along Bauchi – Jos road axis.
The Command reported that the first incident involved two vehicles coming from the opposite direction while the second one occurred about 11 hours after at Kafin Liman on the Bauchi – Kano road at about 11.30 pm with three vehicles involved.
According to the Sector Commander, Yusuf Abdullahi, the two vehicles involved in the first accident are commercial vehicles, a Sharon mini bus, with registration number YLA 88 ZY, and a Toyota Hiace with registration number KUJ 182 TU.
He said the three vehicles involved in the second accident, caused by obstructions on the highway, were a DAF trailer with registration number, 1KMC95YU; Ford Sharon mini bus with registration number NNG21MG; and Opel Vectral with registration number BAU490AA.
However, the Commander blamed the first accident on speed violation by the two drivers, Mustapha Adamu, who drove the Sharon, and the driver of the Toyota Hiace that could not be immediately identified during the rescue operation by the FRSC personnel.
The Command said that nine persons, all males, were involved in the first accident with two of them injured and evacuated to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for treatment while seven corpses were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
Reports also indicated that 12 people comprising nine (9) males and three (3) females were involved in the second accident with eight (8) lives lost, comprising five (5) males and three (3) females.
The corpses, as well as the injured persons, were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kafin Madaki for urgent medical treatment and official confirmation of those that died.
It was further reported that items recovered from the scene of the first accident included six (6) various models of mobile phones and the sum of N109,090 while all the obstructions have been effectively cleared for smooth vehicular movement.
