BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – In a surprise development within the corridors of power in Bauchi State, one of Governor Bala Mohammed’s trusted aides, Barrister Kashim Mohammed Ibrahim on Friday threw in the towel by resigning his appointment as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

News of his decision to quit the Governor’s cabinet shook the political circles with most insiders describing it as the most unexpected turn of events in the Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in the North East State given the level of closeness between the governor and Barrister Ibrahim.

Many readily referenced the loyalty and trust exhibited by Barrister Ibrahim playing the role of a placeholder for Governor Mohammed during the 2023 PDP gubernatorial primary when he took a shot at the opposition Party’s Presidential ticket which was eventually won by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar

So far, reasons have not emerged to officially explain this latest development, but views being expressed by some insiders suggest that there must have been a serious crack in the relationship between both men to warrant such a sudden move by the immediate past SSG.

However, there are insinuations that Barrister Ibrahim may have taken the surprise decision based on mounting pressure preparatory to his dumping the PDP to further his political career in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Governor Bala Mohammed has accepted the SSG’s resignation with immediate effect, and the Chief of Staff (CoS), Government House, Bauchi, Dr. Aminu Hassan Gamawa, has been directed to take over the position in an acting capacity.

A statement by Mukhtar M Gidado, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, quoted Governor Bala Mohammed, as thanking Barrister Kashim Mohammed Ibrahim for the services rendered to the State during his duty tour as the SSG

The statement further said the Governor, on behalf of the government and people of Bauchi State wished the former SSG well in all his future endeavours.
