…We have resolved the problem – Govt

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Suspected positive cases for Coronavirus disease kept at an Isolation Centre that are receiving treatment for the disease have accused the Bauchi State government of starving them at the various centers in the state.

Investigation by Forefront News indicate that some of the patients are complaining seriously of being under fed by those responsible for their feeding for fear of being infected with the virus.

Some of the relations of the index cases, who spoke on condition of anonymity decried the situation which they stressed has clearly showed that the people are been stigmatized just because they have tested positive for COVID-19.

The relations further lamented that rather than be shown care, love and encouragement, the patients are being neglected by not being supplied regular meals even as their relatives are not allowed to serve them food.

They said such a development of under feeding and starvation are most likely to complicate their rate of recovery.

The relatives therefore called on the government to act quickly to save the situation before it degenerates to something else which may not be palatable for the state.

However, reacting to the allegations, the Bauchi State government explained that the issue of delay in providing meals for the patients was not deliberate and is most regretted.

The government said it has therefore directed those in charge of feeding the patients to as a matter of urgency do something to salvage the situation.

In a press statement by the Special Assistant, New Media to the State Governor, Lawal Muazu Bauchi, the state government said; “The attention of Bauchi State Government has been drawn on delay in providing meals for Corona virus patients at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi. The government has since taken action and addressed the issue immediately”.

Muazu further said; “One of the patients confirmed that the issue has been addressed and they are being treated well at the hospital.

“Bauchi State Government vows to continue to consider constructive criticism in order to improve on the delivery of its services to the good people of the state especially at this critical period of coronavirus. “Despite the increase on the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state, the state government is working round the clock and assiduously to avert and tackle further spread of the virus.

“The administration of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Bala A. Mohammed, Kauran Bauchi with our collective supports, will continue to monitor not only patients of COVID-19, but patients of other ailments to ensure they are served with the desired treatment and attention,” the state government assured.
