COVID-19: Taraba Taskforce Arrests Female Escapee from Isolation Centre
BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – The Taraba State Task Force on COVID-19 has rearrested one Mrs Talatu Idris, who escaped from the isolation centre at Sibre a few days ago.
The state commissioner for Health, Dr Innocent Vakkai, who announced this on Tuesday at a press briefing in Jalingo, said Mrs Idris was one of the eight index cases in the state.
Vakkai said that the other seven cases are all stable and receiving treatment while awaiting further testing on Wednesday and Friday to ascertain their status.
The commissioner said that the state government was still waiting to acquire mobile testing kits before it could commence the testing of Almajiris before they would be repatriated to their respective states of origin.
He stressed that the state would not accept any Almajiris in the state unless they are accompanied by government official from the originating states with detail records and proper identification of their Local Government and possibly their parents.
On the confusion surrounding the status of the lockdown order in the state, Vakkai said that the government order is still in place, stressing that anyone that violates the order would be tried by the mobile courts and sanctioned appropriately.
Vakkai said that the state government has reinforced the security at the isolation centre while the tracing of persons who may have had contact with the escapee has commenced in earnest.
