BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The Katagum Youth Progressive Group (KYPG) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to as a matter of urgency, carefully review the party’s gubernatorial candidature process in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Tension is brewing within the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 polls with the Katagum Youth Progressive Group (KYPG) urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the ruling party, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to as a matter of urgency, carefully review the party’s gubernatorial candidature process in Bauchi State.

In their direct plea to the President and APC Chairman, the KYPG is demanding a sweeping review of the primary process to ensure the party fields a universally accepted and capable leader to avoid a repeat of past political missteps.

According to the coalition, its demands for urgent intervention arose due to concern over the prospect of fielding a candidate whose previous record in public office was allegedly characterized by inadequate infrastructure development, delayed project execution, disregard for traditional institutions, lack of transparency, and insufficient inclusion of critical stakeholders.

A statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Baba Isah Azare, for the group pleaded that Bauchi APC must field a candidate capable of uniting party members, inspiring public confidence, and offering a credible alternative to the people of the state.

The statement said: “The APC cannot afford to repeat past mistakes. Bauchi voters deserve a candidate with a proven record of performance, accountability, respect for traditional institutions, and the ability to attract widespread public support”, even as it further warned that imposing an unpopular candidate could weaken the party’s electoral prospects and jeopardize its chances of winning the governorship election.

The KYPG appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership to prioritize competence, acceptability, and grassroots support in determining the party’s standard bearer for Bauchi State, to ensure the party stands a chance of sweeping the polls come next year’s general elections
