Benue 2023: I’ll Separate Politics And Governance – APC Governorship Aspirant, Rev Alia
BY KULA TERSOO, MAKURDI – A priest of the Catholic church aspiring for the Governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 election in Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has said that he has a clear cut agenda to clearly distinguish between state governance and partisan politics if elected.
Alia said that no Governor who is clear headed about governance would want to combine his primary responsibilities that are already enormous with playing father figure in running of party administration and machinery.
The Governorship aspirant, who stated this during his declaration of intention at the APC state secretariat in Makurdi, noted that often times, governors fail to concentrate on state governance and development. According to Alia; “Rather, they seek excessive powers to take control of the party and bully partisans. I know that there would be enough to work on governance.
“There should not be any room for power struggle with the leadership of the party. I shall give due and full concentration on governance,” he said.
The priest however assured that he will always be there for the party and will not abandon the party, adding that he will ensure the leadership of the party is given due attention and needed support for the smooth running of the party.
He also said that his approach to governance shall be centred on rebuilding the Benue economy and develop an agricultural driven economy through agro-processing, small and medium level processing, and manufacturing.
Alia said that economic partnerships for a Greater Benue and undertaking aggressive investment in critical infrastructure and also allowing for development oriented partnering investment will be pursued with all vigour.
He also said that in order to build the future for the present generation and you, his administration will develop human capacity to drive productivity and protect the vulnerable and youth through functional science and technical education.
He stated that building 21 century towns for increased commercial activities and evolving urban renewal policies as well as incorporating community markets with modern facilities and standards to boost economic and commercial activities will be considered prominently, adding that when this is achieved, there will be a huge boost in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the state.
