Benue: Advocacy Group Canvasses APC Deputy Governorship Candidate For Apa/Agatu Zone
The Good Governance Advocacy (GGA), Benue Forum has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), people of goodwill, and communities in the state to see the imperative of selecting a competent Deputy Governorship Candidate from the Apa/Agatu extraction of Benue South senatorial zone C.
GGA said that the selection of a Governorship running mate from the Apa/Agatu area will go a long way to address justice and equity for the 2023 Governorship Election in the State.
A statement by the Coordinator of Good Governance Advocacy, Benue Forum, Ambassodor Terrence Odeh Ogaba explained that the compelling call has become necessary owing to the fact that Apa/Agatu remains the only federal constituency from zone C that is yet to produce a deputy governor.
According to Agaba; āIn the past, Prince Ogiri Ajene ā Oju/Obi was the Deputy Governor to his ExcellencyĀ George Akume (1999 – 2007), Chief Ochagwu Steven Lawani, under His ExcellencyĀ Gabriel Suswan (2007 – 2015) Ogbadibo/Okpokwu/Ado and presently Engr. BensonĀ Abonu under His Excellency Samuel Ortom.
āThis leaves out Apa/Agatu in Zone C and it is only appropriate for the APC to do justice on the matter,ā he said.
The Forum, which said its membership cut across political, professional, and business classes, is committed to lending its voice to the renaissance the Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Aliaās popular choice by the APC presents for a better Benue in 2023.
It said that if the APC will get it right by selecting a suitable and competent deputy from the right section, to ensure victory, since the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has failed theĀ people in delivering good governance.
Agaba said that even at that, the PDP has chosen its Deputy Governorship candidate from Apa/Agatu forĀ strategic reasons which the APC should not contemplate otherwise in order to win resoundingly.
The Forum, therefore, urged the leadership of APC in the state led by Senator George Akume, Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Chief Young Alhaji, Austin Agada, APC State Chairman, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the APC Governorship candidate as well as other party elders and stakeholders to select a Deputy Governorship candidate from Apa/Agatu with competent and experienced party loyalist and faithful like Hon. Yusuf Sulaiman Elaigwu and others.
