Following alleged brutal killings of three operatives of the Benue Civil Protection Guards at Garuwa community in Gwer West Local Government Area, some angry youths on Tuesday morning, March 11, 2025 embarked on violent demonstration.

As a result, the angry youth in Naka, set parts of the Local Government Council Secretariat of Gwer West and the palace of the traditional ruler, Ter Nagi on fire in protest against the killings by armed herdsmen.

It was gathered that the violence erupted after suspected armed herders reportedly killed the three operatives of the Benue Civil Protection Guards at Garuwa community in the local government.

The remains of the victims which were taken to Naka in the early hours of Tuesday, triggered a spontaneous protest that eventually led to destruction.

Commenting on the development, the Chairman of Gwer West LGA, Hon Victor Omirin, and Ter Nagi, Chief Daniel Abomtse, confirmed the incident saying that both the palace of the traditional ruler and parts of the local government secretariat were burnt.

Omirin said; “Three protection guards were killed in Garuwa. So, when their bodies were brought to Naka, it sparked protest by the youth and it’s now being taken over by hoodlums. They burnt down the secretariat and the Ter Naka palace”.

Efforts made by Forefront News to get Catherine Anene, Public Relations officer of the Nigeria Police, Benue State command to comment on the unfortunate development did not yield result as her phone did not go through owing to bad network.
