The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has summoned the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, over the involvement of his company in an alleged N438 million contract fraud in the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The CCB which summoned the Minister via a letter signed Gwimi S. P., Director in-charge of Investigation and Monitoring, on behalf of the Chairman of the Bureau, Murtala Aliyu, directed the Minister, Hon Tunji-Ojo to report at its headquarters situated at the Federal Secretariat, Central Business District, Abuja on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
The CCB said in the letter that it is investigating a case of alleged breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers in which his name featured prominently.
The Bureau said that Tunji-Ojo is expected to report by 1100hrs prompt at the CCB Headquarters on 5th Floor, Annex III, Phase I, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja.
The CCB said that the invitation extended to the Interior Minister was pursuant to the mandate and powers of the Bureau as enshrined in the Third Schedule, Part I, Paragraph 3 (e) to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
It advised Tunji-Ojo to be properly guided.
A company, New Planet Projects, allegedly belonging to Tunji-Ojo, was believed to have benefitted from a contract scam from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), last week, commenced probe into the activities of the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, over alleged N585 million fraud in the ministry.
As a prelude to the probe by the EFCC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved the suspension of Betta Edu as minister over an alleged payment of N585 million humanitarian funds meant for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River, and Ogun states into a private account.
