- For drinking step-brother’s leftover tea
Amid the growing cases of child abuse across the country, another disturbing incident has occurred in Obiofia Nnewichi Umuezize in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Reports said that for daring to drink the leftover tea of his half-brother, a 15-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to stupor with an iron rod by both his angry stepmother and father.
According to eyewitness accounts, the teenager’s father, Okwudili Ikediobi, in a most barbaric manner, tied his hands and feet to an iron protector and left him for days without food after being informed of the tea-drinking incident.
Narrating his ordeal to the ‘Good Samaritans’ that rescued him from the ill-treatment, the boy recounted thus; ”The abuse started when we were taken from Ozubulu Community Children’s Home. I was severely punished because I finished the leftover tea of my half-brother which made my stepmother beat me with iron.
“Immediately my father heard what happened, he tied my hands and feet to a nearby iron protector.
“I was left there for days without food. Even my sister, who usually sneaked in food for me was severely punished by our step-mother.”
The boy further explained that his sister later help him to escape and while he was wandering about in the streets, people saw the injuries on him and began to ask questions.
It was gathered that the good hearted people, touched by the young boy’s pathetic story of torture, that eventually took pity and handed him over to the State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare for further action. – With The Nation report
