- In $18.75m transfer deal
Manchester United Manager, Jose Mourinho continued his pre-season build-up as the Old Trafford club declared Dutch International, Daley Blind surplus to their requirements for next season
With just 90 Premier League appearances in four years at Manchester, Blind is returning to Ajax Amsterdam on a four-year contract.
United and Ajax officials confirmed on Tuesday that a deal for an initial 16 million Euros ($18.75 million) has been struck by both clubs.
They however acknowledged that the transfer deal could eventually hit the 20.5 million Euros mark based on performance add-ons.
Last season, Blind was limited to only seven appearances for Manchester United, and he wrote twitter that; “To play for the biggest club in the world with such a history meant a lot to me.”
Capped 54 times by the Netherlands, Blind, who can play in any position across the backline, further said; “I want to thank everyone, the managers, coaches, the medical department, everyone who helped me to settle in so quick at the beginning, of course my team mates and last but definitely not least the fans.”
The 28-year-old, who came through the Ajax Academy in Amsterdam, the Dutch capital, played over 100 senior matches for the club, before arriving at United in 2014.
Though not a first-team regular under Jose Mourinho’s watch, Blind is considered more of a utility player with ability to showcase his skills in the midfield or defence,
During his 4-year stint with United, he won the FA Cup in 2016 with the League Cup and Europa League medals in 2017. – With agency reports
