Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State has condoled the Emir of Yauri, Dr Zayyanu Abdullahi and the Emirate Council over the recent boat mishap and outbreak of epidemic in the emirate.

The Governor, who paid a condolence visit to the Emir, expressed concern over the frequent boat mishaps and outbreak of epidemics in the state.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malam Mua’azu Dakingari said in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday that Governor Bagudu has assured the Emir and the people of government’s support at all times with a promise that necessary measures are being taken to forestall further loss of lives and property in the state

In his response, the Emir, Dr Abdullahi, who thanked the governor for his visit, blamed the boat mishap on non-adherence to marine safety rules by an operator that blatantly ignored the warning of an impending storm.

He appealed to the governor to urgently address the issue of bad roads in Yauri, particularly between Koko and Yauri, as well as the challenges of accessing potable water, electricity and medical services at the General Hospital.

Abdullahi also expressed worries over the seeming nonchalant attitude of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) in removing grasses, trees and stones along the river channels, noting that this was hindering effective water transportation within the area.

According to Agency report, scores of people lost their lives in a recent boat mishap and cholera outbreak that occurred in the Yauri emirate.
