Breaking: Former President Shehu Shagari Dies At 93

Former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari is dead. Reports said he died on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the National Hospital, Abuja after a brief illness.

Alhaji Shagari was elected and sworn-in on October 1, 1979 as Nigeria’s first Executive President on the platform of defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN). Though re-elected for a second term in 1983, the Military truncated his administration in December of the same year in a coup de’tat.

He was 93 years old. The nonagenarian’s demise was announced on twitter by his grandson, Bello Shagari.

According to Bello, “I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja.”

The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, who also confirmed the report on his Twitter handle, said: “I regret to announce the death of former President Shehu Shagari who just passed away at National Hospital, Abuja. May his soul rest in Peace”.
