BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Breakthrough ACTION-Nigeria (BA-N) has challenged media practitioners to step up efforts at checking the spread of the omicron version of coronavirus (COVID-19) and other associated deadly diseases like malaria and tuberculosis in the country.

According to the Program Officer of Social Behavior Change, Nkoyo Umo, the media must remain focused and always on their toes until the battle against the spread and control of COVID-19 is won

Speaking at a two-day media review meeting in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Umo acknowledged the media contributions in driving advocacy campaigns to combat the spread of the pandemic.

However, she admitted that a lot still needs to be done, especially with the new version of the virus fast assuming frightening dimensions.

The session provided BA-N media partners the opportunity of re-evaluating their contributions towards the fight by the organization to boost public awareness of the efforts and various measures put in place by both the government and the private sector to combat the spread of COVID-19 across the country.

A vaccinated BA-N media partner of Prime News, Mr Emmanuel Ikpoti, who spoke to Forefront advised media practitioners to be good ambassadors of coronavirus vaccination in order to convince the public that the vaccine is safe

BA-N, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development USAID, is currently focused on the fight to eradicate and control deadly diseases, like COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and gender-based discriminative practices, in about nine states of the federation, including Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Nassarawa, and Oyo.
