The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared a three-day period of national mourning in honour of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The ADC urged all of its members and teaming supporters across the country to observe the declared period of mourning with solemnity and respect.

These were contained in a statement by Senator David Mark, Interim National Chairman of ADC, saying the mourning period was in recognition of the profound impact of late President Buhari’s leadership and contributions to the Nigerian state.

Accordingly, the ADC has suspended all political activities at both national and state levels in the country throughout the mourning period.

Mark, in the statement, noted the late Buhari’s life was marked by unwavering dedication to the service of Nigeria, both in military and civilian capacities.

In the words of Mark; “President Muhammadu Buhari was a statesman of exceptional character. As a soldier, he fought bravely to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of our nation.

“As a democratically elected President, he contributed significantly to the growth and consolidation of democratic governance in Nigeria. His leadership reflected discipline, commitment, and a deep sense of patriotism,” he said.

The ADC National Chairman called on the Federal Government to take appropriate steps to immortalize President Buhari in order to preserve his enduring legacies for future generations, saying; “We believe it is only fitting that his name and contributions be etched permanently into the national memory through the establishment of monuments, institutions, or initiatives that reflect the values he stood for”.

The ADC also extended its deepest condolences to the family of the late former President Buhari, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and all Nigerians mourning the great loss.
