BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday appointed Major-General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.
In a statement signed by the military spokesperson, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, prior to his appointment, Major-General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism, Counter-Insurgency military outfit in the North East code named Operation HADIN KAI.
By his appointment, Major General Yahaya is now the 22nd chief of Army State and now succeeds Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a Kaduna air crash last Friday with 10 other military officers.
