Buhari Appoints New Deputy Gov, MPC Members For CBN

BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday presented Mrs Aishah Ahmad to the Senate for confirmation as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Mrs Ahmad is expected to replace a former Deputy Governor, who retired early this year.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

Adesina further said that ‘in accordance with the provisions of Section 8(1) (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007, President Buhari requested the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki to consider the expeditious confirmation of Mrs Ahmad, who would then resume work immediately.

The Presidential spokesman also stated that the President also wrote the Senate, seeking for the confirmation of appointment of members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), of the CBN.

The nominees are Professor Adeola Festus Adenikinju; Dr Aliyu Rafindadi Sanusi; Dr Robert Chikwendu Asogwa and Dr Asheikh A. Maidugu.

The nominated MPC members, who would be expected to resume duties in January 2018 after the Senate screening and clearance, are to replace four others whose tenure expires at the end of this year.
