The appearance of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Villa Mosque for the Juma’at congregational prayers has temporarily put on hold wild speculation on the status of his health.
According to a video clip that is trending on social media, Buhari is seen leaving the mosque in company of his aides, among them his aide-de-camp, chief security officer, personal physician and State Chief of Protocol. He arrived at the mosque at exactly 1.30pm.
The President’s absence at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting for three weeks running had sparked off speculation that his health may have assumed a frightening dimension. First lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has early in the week resorted to her twitter account to allay the fears of Nigerians. She said that Buhari was discharging his responsibilities and that there was no cause for Nigerians to be worried about the health of their president.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, while explaining the absence of Buhari at FEC, had told Nigerians that Buhari was taking a rest as prescribed by his doctors.
Those who joined the president for the Friday prayer included the Minister of FCT, Muhammed Musa Bello, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. Others were National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Lawal Daura, among others.
