With the mounting insecurity holding sway across the country, President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over an emergency National Security meeting at the State House, Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Though the detailed agenda was not readily available, sources in the Presidency hinted that a review of the current state of insecurity in different parts of the country is topping discussions among the key stakeholders.
Our sources also said it is likely that the security implication of the Twitter ban in the country may on the table for consideration by the council
Those in attendance include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN); Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari; and National Security Adviser (NSA), Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd).
Also gracing the meeting are Ministers of Defence, Major-General Bashir Magashi (rtd); Foreign Affairs, Geoffery Onyema; Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amoo; and the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya.
Aside from some presidential aides said to be attending the meeting, others are the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba; Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufa’i; and Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi.
