- Proposes new retirement age for teachers
President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the House of Representatives seeking the confirmation of Major General Farouk Yahaya’s appointment as Nigeria’s new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Also, the President requested the lawmakers to pass a law increasing the retirement age of teachers from the present 60 years to 65 years while proposing to move the mandatory years of service from 35 to 40 years.
Major-General Yahaya was appointed the COAS late in May 2021 to replace Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a plane crash in Kaduna, along with ten other officers, including the plane’s crew.
