Buhari Picks Shonubi As New CBN Dep Gov

BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the nomination of Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as a new Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu said in a statement on Friday that Shonubi’s appointment is however subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.

Mr Shonubi holds a B.Sc and Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Finance from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

He is currently the Managing Director of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS), the financial payments, facilitation and settlement platform that has been instrumental to the growth in electronic payments in the Nigerian financial industry.

The Presidential spokesman stated that before assuming the headship of NIBBS in 2012, “Mr Shonubi had garnered decades of executive-level experience in financial service operations, notably as Executive Director at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Renaissance Securities Nigeria Ltd and Ecobank Nigeria Plc.”

According to CBN insiders, Shonubi will be replacing Mr Adebayo Adelabu, who is quitting as the apex bank’s deputy governor in July 2018.
