Buhari’s Anti-graft War Mired In Judicial Technicalities – Catholic Bishops
Catholic Bishops from the Kaduna Ecclesiastical Province, comprising Kaduna, Sokoto, Kontangora, Zaria, Minna, Kano and Kafanchan areas, have described current war against corruption by President Muhammadu Buhari as mired in judicial technicalities.
In their communiqué, signed by Chairman of the conference, Archbishop Mathew Ndagoso and Secretary, Bishop John Niyiring, after their two-day conference at the St. Michael’s Catholic Cathedral, Minna, in Niger State, the bishops called on the Federal Government to encourage relevant agencies engaged in the corruption war to evolve new strategies in combating the menace of corruption.
The church leaders condemned the renewed spate of insurgency, cattle rustling, kidnapping and assassination threatening the security of lives and property, adding, “We are saddened that things seem to have gotten progressively worse today in the country.”
Calling on the Federal Government to tackle current recession that has made living a difficult task for ordinary citizens, the bishops stated that the people entrusted the present government with their hopes by voting across religion and regions, but that government seemed to have squandered most of that goodwill.
In the same vein, the bishops took a swipe at members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), describing their ongoing strike as burdensome and unnecessary to parents and students.
According to them, “ASUU’s seasons for strikes have undermined the credibility and value of education and seriously lowered the integrity of the academia.”
Welcoming Buhari from his medical vacation after spending over 100 days in London, the bishops thanked God for answering prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari’s recovery.
“We will continue to pray to God to give him strength and wisdom to face the challenges that our nation faces in these difficult moments,” they declared.
