Building Collapses In Lagos, Traps Many Workers
BY CHINYERE OBIORA – At least six persons, including artisans, have been confirmed trapped after a seven-storey building collapsed in Lagos on Sunday
According to the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the incident occurred early in the morning at Oba Idowu Oniru Street by Ave Maria Hospital, near Sandfield Bus Stop in Lekki.
Oke-Osanyintolu said in an update that the building was still under construction but the cause of the collapse was not immediately known
However, emergency workers and security operatives have already moved to the site in an effort to rescue the trapped victims.
Also joining Oke-Osanyintolu to confirm the incident, Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye said six persons were trapped at the site but assured that search and rescue operations have already commenced.
Farinloye said; “Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, an uncompleted seven-storey building undergoing construction was found to have collapsed. Six people are reported to be trapped under the rubbles of the collapsed structure.
“The Agency’s heavy-duty equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of the trapped victims. We have activated the Lagos State Response plan. Operation is ongoing. Updates to follow.”
