BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – A group of “Concerned Nigerians” on Monday stormed the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), demanding for the repatriation of former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke from the United Kingdom.

The group, led by led by popular activists Deji Adeyanju, and Charles Oputa (popularly called Charly Boy) alleged that Diezani siphoned several billions of state funds while in office. But the EFCC has restated its resolve to follow the rule of law and due process.

Speaking on behalf of the Acting chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu, the Secretary to the Commission, Emmanuel Aremo, said the anti-graft agency remained committed to the rule of law, stressing that this was paramount in the fight against corruption.

According to him; “Let us be patient and let us follow due process. We on our part will ensure that no stone is left unturned as we intensify the war against corruption.”

“I urge Nigerians to be patient, because extradition requires a painstaking process that must be followed.”

He urged the group led by popular activists not to relent in their support for the EFCC, adding that the anti-graft agency needed the partnership of every Nigerian in the fight against corruption.

While commending the EFCC for intensifying the fight against corruption, Charley Boy said it is not enough for Diezani’s assets to be forfeited; stressing that there should be conviction.

In his own remarks, Adeyanju urged the EFCC not to be deterred in prosecuting the fight against corruption, saying that after the two-day sit-out, which began on August 28, 2017 at the EFCC headquarters, the group will take its protest calling for Diezani’s repatriation from the UK.
