Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru Dies In Military Air Crash
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru has died in an air crash which occurred this evening in Kaduna.
General Attahiru, who was on an official trip to Kaduna, is believed to have died with his aides in a military plane crash.
Forefront News gathered that the training aircraft suffered the crash at the Kaduna international airport runway.
Competent sources further disclosed that the plane crash-landed with the eight people on board that included the Chief of Arny Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru.
The Director of Public Relations of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet confirmed the incident in a statement issued shortly after the incident, saying that the unfortunate incident occurred near the Kaduna International Airport.
Gabkwet said: “An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon”.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 6 pm while it was raining heavily.
Identities of officers on board are yet to be released by the military authorities as at the time of filing this report even as they are strong indications that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Attahiru was on board of the ill-fated aircraft.
