BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – Former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko on Wednesday declared that the Senate would no longer tolerate affronts on its constitutionally assigned power and responsibility.
Wamakko, who was responding to the actions of the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Col Hameed Ali towards the Senate, said the upper legislative remains unanimous of the retired military officer is an affront on the legislative arm of government.
Senator Wamakko further said that Col Ali is not and cannot be above the law, adding that the Customs boss cannot also claim to love Nigeria more than the majority of Nigerians, whose mandate members of the National Assembly exercise.
He further said; “Today the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to the people of Nigeria, whose mandate we exercise as their elected representatives.
“The Senate will continue to act as always in the best and overall interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. Col Ali’s action is an affront on the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
“Under a military government Col. Hameed Ali would not dare refuse the instructions of his Commanding Officer. He would definitely be charged for treason if he attempts such an act and court marshialed,” Wamakko stressed.
