A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Alhaji (Dr) Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso, has challenged Governor Abba Yusuf to come clean on the allegations surrounding the award of medical supplies contract in the State.

According to him, the governor should own up his misdeeds and stop denying knowledge of the contract in which the 44 local government councils have been instructed to pay about N9 million each to a company named Novomed.

Reports said the controversial business outfit is allegedly owned by a nephew of Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Responding to statement by the governor’s spokesman claiming the State government was not aware of such contract, the APC stalwart maintained his earlier allegations that the NNPP Leader Rabiu Kwankwaso is the governor by proxy and effectively the person taking charge of affairs in the State.

He said if truly Governor Yusuf prides himself as being in control of things, the contract issue should not be about investigation, but handled through legal action against the whistleblower, Bello Galadanci.

In a statement issued in Kano on Sunday, Dr Ilyasu Kwankwaso challenged Governor Yusuf thus; “If you do not know about this deal, then you have confirmed what I said earlier, that Rabiu Kwankwaso is the governor of the state, not you. You are only his errand boy.

“If you are aware of it, then investigation should not be the response; instead, you should seek legal redress against the allegations in a competent court of law.

“Your claim that you are unaware only confirms that you are not the governor in charge, but Rabiu Kwankwaso is. Whatever you are doing is under the instructions and command of your boss.

“We can agree that you are not aware of the contract, but your boss is. We don’t want you to deceive the public”.

The APC Chieftain further said if the governor admits being aware of the contract and the money already paid to his boss’s nephew, with evidence of transactions presented by the whistleblower, then he is complicit in the illegal business deal.

For him, Governor Yusuf’s refusal to acknowledge the opaque business arrangement only confirms he not the defacto Kano governor, but merely a boy Friday for his master, Rabiu Kwankwaso
