Still basking in their awesomely inspiring performances at the just concluded World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, United States of America, the duo of Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume have set the camp of Team Nigeria alight with their arrival in Birmingham for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The two athletes breezed into the Commonwealth Games Birmingham (CGB) Games Village camp in the early hours of Thursday to a rousing welcome by both officials and fellow athletes alike.

Amusan hit global headlines after she smashed the 100m hurdles world record and also claimed a Gold medal in the event at Oregon’s World Athletics Championships while Brume, a close ally of Amusan, won a Silver medal in the Long Jump event at the event.

Both are favourites to clinch gold in their different events as they did at Gold Coast, Australia in 2018. This is as athletics experts and coaches believe their positive energy and momentum will boost the confidence of the other athletes in camp.

The opening ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games flagged off yesterday at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, United Kingdom.
